"This a really well-balanced and talented class," said Sinacola on her first recruiting class as a head coach. "I'm excited to have this class come in and be impactful players when they get here. This is a group of hard workers and really great people. I think they will fit in perfectly with our culture and they will all bring their specific strengths that will help us on and off the field."
Mary Claire Burnett // 5'2 // Midfielder/Defender // South Bend, Ind./John Adams
Burnett was a four-time First Team All-Northern Indiana Conference selection while at John Adams High School. She was also named team Most Valuable Player three times in her career. Burnett boasts two All-District selections in 2015 and 2016. She played her club soccer for the Junior Irish and was also a member of the Indiana Olympic Development Program state team. Burnett also participated in the ODP Regional Holdover Camp.
Sinacola on Burnett – "I can see Mary Claire playing different roles for us in the back line, in the midfield and even up top. Mary Claire is a very technical and intelligent soccer player that we can form into whatever we may need. On top of it all, she has a great work-rate and will come to training to improve and push her teammates every day."
Ashleigh Garcia // 5'8 // Forward // Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer
Garcia was named All-State Honorable Mention while at Lapeer High School. She starred for the National Union soccer club that was ranked No. 1 in the state of Michigan and No. 15 in the nation. Garcia helped National Union, along with fellow signee Maggie Rogers, to a State Cup Championship in 2016. Garcia also helped her team win the 2017 Disney Showcase. She finished her club season ranked second overall in scoring in the National League.
Sinacola on Garcia – "Ashleigh is a very gifted player. She has a nice touch on the ball, she is athletic and very confident in the attacking third. She's good at posting players up and can also take on players one-on-one. She is a very talented athlete and also a very talented soccer player."
Colleen McKay // 5'8 // Midfielder // Rochester Hills, Mich./Schoolcraft College
McKay was named Michigan Community College Athletic Association Freshman of the Year in 2015. In two seasons with Schoolcraft College she accumulated 24 goals and 18 assists. McKay was named to the National Junior College Association All-Tournament Team in 2016 and was named a Second Team NJCCA All-American.
Sinacola on McKay – "Colleen had a lot of success at Schoolcraft. She earned multiple junior college awards and comes from a strong background of soccer. Colleen will add to the level of athleticism of our team along with her ability on the ball and a high intelligence of the game. We are looking forward to having Colleen join us."
Ryian Owusu // 5'9 // Defender // Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams
In her sophomore season at Rochester Adams, Owusu was named All-Conference and All-District. During her junior season she tacked on All-Region and Second Team All-State. In 2013 she helped lead Rochester Soccer Club to a semifinalist spot in the State Cup.
Sinacola on Owusu – "Ryian is the player that gets the job done, whatever you need her to do. She's very versatile when it comes to position, we could use her in the back line or in the midfield. We could even see her up top if we need to because of her athleticism and her comfort on the ball. She's fast, athletic, strong and a good one-on-one defender."
Hannah Redoute // 5'6 // Forward/Midfielder // Shelby Township, Mich./Bloomfield Hills Marian
Redoute helped the Michigan Hawks Soccer Club to a 2017 Elite Club National League Championship and to ECNL Midwest Championships in 2016 and 2017. She helped Marian High School to the state finals in 2014 and was named All-State Honorable Mention in both 2014 and 2015. Redoute also won a state championship in basketball with Marian in 2015.
Sinacola on Redoute – "Hannah is another player that we can play in multiple positions. She's very technical. She can receive the ball in tight spaces, face defenders up and go one-on-one. Hannah is also smart with her decision making but isn't afraid to take risks, she will attempt things that not a lot of players will try and that's really fun to watch."
Maggie Rogers // 5'8 // Goalkeeper // Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams
Along with fellow signee Ashleigh Garcia, Rogers helped her club team, National Union, win the State Cup championship in 2016, as well as the 2017 Disney Showcase. She helped her club achieve the top ranking in the state of Michigan and 15th nationally. Rogers was a Michigan Olympic Development Program goalkeeper selection as well.
Sinacola on Rogers – "Maggie is a great addition to this team on and off the field. She is a strong athlete that is very confident in her abilities. With her athleticism she has the potential to be a very good keeper at the next level. We are excited to have Maggie come in to this team culture and compete every day."
Hannah Sargent // 5'10 // Goalkeeper // Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange
Sargent is a two-time all-conference selection and Scholar Athlete at Olentangy Orange High School. She helped her club team, Classics Eagles FC, to two Ohio Presents Cup championships (2015, 2016), an Adidas Turf Classic championship in 2015 and a Disney Showcase championship in 2014.
Sinacola on Sargent – "Hannah is a technical goalkeeper with nice range. She has good size and has spent a lot of time developing as a keeper. Hannah is also a strong athlete that has a great work-rate which will not only help her be a great in college but also push the other keepers to be better each and every day."
"We are extremely excited for our 2017 recruiting class," added Sinacola. "They represent everything that the Women's soccer program stands for. This group of players are outstanding people and will fit into our team culture very well. The mix of talent and athleticism will serve as a strong contributor as we work toward a MAC Championship."
