THIS WEEK
The Broncos welcome Lake Superior State to Lawson Ice Arena for a two game series of Friday and Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. The weekend will be highlighted by Military Appreciation Night on Saturday. More Information on Military Appreciation Night can be found by clicking here.

LAST WEEK
Western Michigan opened up conference play with a home-and-home series against Michigan State. On Friday the Broncos came within .01 seconds of tying the game but time expired before Max Campbell’s shot hit the back of the net and WMU fell 2-1.

On Saturday the Broncos hosted Michigan State for its first home conference game. The Bronco comeback was once again thwarted by the Spartans. A late goal by Chris Clackson cut the MSU lead to 4-3 and with a power play for the rest of regulation, WMU pulled netminder Riley Gill. The Broncos had a few chances before MSU’s Dustin Gazely put the puck in to the empty net to seal the Spartan win. 

SERIES HISTORY
This weekend will be the 124th and 125th meetings between the Lakers and the Broncos. Lake Superior holds the all-time edge, 69-43-11 and even hold the edge at Lawson Ice Arena with a 28-24-9 advantage.  The Broncos have not defeated the Lakers in the regular season since Feb. 26, 2005.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
The Lakers (4-4-0, 1-3-0 CCHA) come in to the weekend with sixth ranked offense in the league, averaging 3.00 goals per game in eight games this season. While the offense has produced, the defense has lacked for the Lakers, allowing 3.25 goals per game.

The Lakers have seven players with two or more goals on the season, led by Chad Nehring with five. Senior Zac MacVoy leads the team with eight points off of one goal an seven assists. The Lakers boast one of the top power plays in the CCHA, converting on 23.1 percent of their chances for nine goals on the season. Four of those nine power play goals have been tallied by Nehring.

Junior goaltender Brian Mahoning-Wilson has played in all eight games for the Lakers, starting in seven and replacing back-up Pat Inglis in one. The San Jose Sharks draft pick has a 4-3-0 record with a 2.88 goals against average and a .902 save percentage, but does boast one shutout on the season.

Max Campbell, Greg Squires and J.J. Crew have all had tremendous success against the Lakers. In eight games, Campbell has scored one goal but tallied seven assists for the most points against the Lakers among any Bronco. Squires tallied two goals and four assists in five games last season, while Crew tallied five points on two goals and three assists. Riley Gill has appeared in eight games in net against the Lakers with a 4-2-1 record and a 2.75 goals against average.

WELL THE CALL IT THE STREAK
Freshman left-winger Trevor Elias has played six games in his collegiate career with Western Michigan. It just so happens, he has tallied a point in every game so far this season. Elias started off with an assist in each of WMU’s wins over Mercyhurst. He followed that up by a pair of goals in WMU’s sweep of Alabama-Huntsville and then netted a goal in Friday’s 2-1 loss to MSU and an assist in Saturday’s game.
