FARMINGTON HILLS -- After a weekend series sweep in which the Broncos out-scored Notre Dame 11-3, Western Michigan was awarded some hardware as Derek Roehl was named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week and Tyler Ludwig was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Ludwig assisted on two goals in Friday’s 7-2 rout of Notre Dame. On Saturday, the senior captain scored the game-winning goal at the 16:53 mark of the first period. It was one of five power-play goals scored by the Broncos against the then top ranked penalty kill team in the nation. Ludwig later assisted on the final goal of the game scored by Roehl.

The Colleyville, Texas, native also blocked six of his seven shots in Saturday’s 4-1 win. He was pivotal in the Broncos holding the Fighting Irish to 0-for-19 on the power play on the weekend.

Roehl assisted on the game-winning goal scored by Jared Katz in Friday’s win. He later tallied his first of four goals on the weekend to give WMU a 4-1 lead at the time. On Saturday Roehl set career highs for goals in a game and points in a game. The sophomore winger picked up his first career hat-trick, scoring a goal in each period in Saturday’s win.

A native of Clinton Township, Mich., he also assisted on Ludwig’s game-winner for his first career four-point game. Roehl scored three of WMU’s five power play goals in the sweep.

It is the first award of Roehl’s career with the Broncos and the fourth of Ludwig’s career. Three of them came during last year’s campaign that saw him set career-highs in points, assists and goals.

Western Michigan continues action in the final weeks of the regular season as it makes the long trek to Marquette, Mich., to battle the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m.
