FINAL RESULTS

ATHENS, Ohio -- Junior Samantha Tomerlin came within .2 seconds of earning All-MAC Honors at the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships at the Ohio University Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

Tomerlin finished in 15th with a time of 23:02.7, just behind Miami's Maggie Bingham in 14th place with a time of 23:02.5.

"Sam did a great job today," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "We got off to a bad start, getting trapped behind a large pack in the first 400 meters and she was able to navigate her way all the way up to 15th.

Overall, the Broncos finished in 10th place. Jenna Matthews was WMU's second finisher with a time of 24:10.08 and senior Jill Odom was the third Bronco to cross the finish line with a time of 24:10.8.

"We knew it was going to be tough with all of the freshmen on the team," commented Lycan. "We put them through some tough training and they seemed to fade down the stretch, but they will benefit from it in the long run."

Freshmen Cara Cremeans and Erika Jensen rounded out WMU's top five peformers with times of 24:39.2 and 24:48.2 on the day.

Western Michigan heads to Indiana University for the Great Lakes Regional Championships in two weeks on Nov. 14.
