Western Michigan athletics wants our fans to get to know some of the student-athletes who will be joining the Bronco football team this fall through our summer Q&A series. They address everything from when and why they started playing to football, to their most embarrassing moment and more. Get up close and personal with your newest Broncos!
Meet Dallas Walker, an incoming tight end transfer from Georgia Military College.
When and why did you start playing football?
I started playing in sixth grade. I’ve always loved football; everyone in my family has played it. A lot of people in my family have played college football. Its something I’ve been in love with since day one.
Was deciding to come to Western Michigan a difficult decision for you?
It wasn’t really that difficult. They understood that I was trying to get into a Division I school. It just happened to work out for me to come here.
What drew you to Western Michigan?
First it was the coaching staff, their honesty and the way they presented themselves. Also, the football program in general. I could tell that Western Michigan’s football team is headed in the right direction.
What will you miss most about Georgia Military College?
Georgia Military College is a smaller group of guys. Sometimes with a smaller group of guys it feels closer. We were together 24/7 no matter what we were doing. It was a family feeling. I hope I can experience that here too.
What is one of your favorite memories of playing football?
It would have to be playing high school football. The Friday night lights in high school and the whole recruitment process.
What are you planning on majoring in?
Business finance. The main reason is because it opens up so many doors for so many different career opportunities. I would like to possibly one day work in the real estate and mortgage business.
Are you nervous about coming to Western Michigan?
I’m really optimistic. I feel confident I’m going in the right direction. With football I’m just a little nervous about learning a whole new offense.
What is your favorite school subject?
English.
What are some of your hobbies?
Football, basketball, golf, hunting and fishing.
Who was a significant mentor to you growing up?
I was fortunate to have my mom and relatives in my family that I have been real close to while growing up. I can talk to them about everything.
What is one of your best childhood memories?
Growing up and being able to go to the lake on the weekends, and going on vacations. I have younger brothers. It was fun growing up with them, watching them play sports and playing sports with them. Our family revolved around athletics.
If someone were to play you in a movie, who would it be and why?
Denzel Washington, I like him as an actor.
What are three things you cannot live without?
My family, friends, God.
What is one of your most embarrassing moments?
My freshmen year in college, I was in the lunch room and we all had to sing a song. I sang “Country Boys and Girls Gettin’ Down on the Farm.” It was the only song that would come to my mind.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
China. My grandfather worked over there not to long ago and brought back pictures. Everything over there is amazing.
Who are your favorite football players?
All time favorite player is Deion Sanders. I also really like Brett Favre.
What are your expectations for this season?
Hopefully the spots of people that left will be able to be filled. I feel real good about everything though, we’re expecting a good season. I expect the team to go out there attack everything hard. There are people out there thinking after the loss of some spots we won’t be as good as last year. All we can do is try to change some minds when the season comes rolling around.
Do you have any routines you do before a game?
Nothing really in particular. I listen to my music and I think about what needs to be done and focus. Once you go out on the field everything is kind of hectic, so I get by myself and get focused beforehand.
What kind of music is on your iPOD?
Sometimes rap, sometimes rock, sometimes Christian music. It’s a little bit of everything. I like listening to ACDC, Kid Rock, its just depends.
Do you have any superstitions?
I do have Philippians 4:13 written down. That’s not really a superstition though, I don’t believe much in those. We make our own luck.
What are three fun facts about yourself?
I like to deer hunt, I have three brothers, and I can play the piano!
