WMU Softball Releases 2013 Schedule
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The 2012-13 WMU Softball schedule was released today looking to start the season off right on February 7 against the Oregon Ducks in the Kajikawa Classic.
Oregon along with the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Michigan Wolverines are the only teams on the schedule that finished in the top 25 rankings last season. They'll also played Notre Dame and Kentucky twice, who also received votes to be in the top 25.
The Broncos start the 2013 season at the Kajikawa Classic where they look to improve their performance that they had in the tournament last year. The only win WMU posted during the tournament was a 9-0 five inning shut-out against Cal-State Northridge.
WMU hopes to keep the dominance up in the Mid-American Conference last year after going 11-9 in the conference and making it to the MAC Championship Game in the MAC tournament. MAC play opens up on the road for WMU against Northern Illinois on Saturday March, 30. The first home MAC game is April 12 in a double-header against Eastern Michigan.
The momentum of being at home suited well for WMU last year as they were 7-3 at Fran Ebert Field. WMU this year got a break from being on the road last year, as the Broncos will be at Fran Ebert Field 16 times throughout the season, including a 10-game home stand at the end of the year.
The first home game for WMU will be on Tuesday, March 19 against IPFW beginning at 2 p.m.
The Broncos also take part in some fall ball action on Sunday, September 23 with a double-header against Aquinas at Fran Ebert Field. The first game starts at 12 p.m. (noon).
