JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Western Michigan University baseball team (3-1) defeated Kennesaw State (4-6) (7-2) on Monday night at Harmon Stadium.
Sophomore RHP Dan Coberley picked up his first win of the season after 4.0 innings of work he gave up only two hits, walked two and struckout four batters. Sophomore Drew Mahan earned his second save of the season. Mahan came in and threw 3.0 innings, giving up only one hit and sat down two batters.
Offensively Senior captain Mark Abro was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.
It was a tied ball game (2-2) going into the bottom of the fourth. With two outs senior Travis May hit a two-run single that gave the Broncos a 4-2 lead over Kennesaw State. Abro singled through the left side to add one more run to the inning.
Strong pitching and defense from the Brown & Gold kept Kennesaw State scoreless the remainder of the game.
WMU will continue its two-game series against Kennesaw State on March 1 at 1:00 p.m.
