COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado College scored three straight goals in the third period as Western Michigan fell to the Tigers, 3-0, at World Arena on Saturday night.

Lukas Hafner made 27 saves in net but the Broncos were blanked after Josh Thorimbert made the necessary 17 saves to earn the shutout. WMU was outshot 30-17 on the night and held scoreless on four power play opportunities.

Charlie Taft netted a goal on a breakaway just 21 seconds into the third period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Just after a Bronco power play ended, Colorado College was able to capitalize on a scrum around the net and Luc Gerdes netted his first career goal to push the lead to 2-0 at 3:26.

Sam Rothstein netted his second goal on the weekend with 3:05 left in the third period to ice the game for Colorado College, giving them a 3-0 lead. Jaccob Slavin fired a shot from the left point and the rebound bounced to the right side of the net where Rothstein punched it into an open goal.

Western Michigan hosts Nebraska-Omaha on Friday and Saturday for its Ice Duchenne weekend. The Broncos and Mavericks will battle during a two-game series and WMU will also be raising money to fight Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.
