KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan hockey program and head coach Andy Murray have announced the addition of former Bowling Green Falcon Josh Boyd to the hockey staff for the 2013-14 season.

Boyd played at BGSU from 2006-10 and appeared in 90 games as a forward, netting 10 career goals and totalling 22 points. The Columbus, Ohio, native also spent time in the ECHL and SPHL after graduating with a degree in education in 2010.

“We’ve had two tremendous assistants the past two seasons in Spiros Anastas and Bob Caldwell,” said Murray. “Josh is a great hockey mind and has the drive and skill set to fit in well with our staff.”

“I’m extremely excited and thankful for the opportunity to work with Coach Murray, Coach Ferschweiler, and Coach Facca,” added Boyd. “I’m looking forward to getting started at WMU and having the chance to learn from such a knowledgeable and experienced staff.”

Along with his minor-pro hockey career Boyd interned with the Atlanta Thrashers in the hockey operations department. Recently he was also a scout for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. While at Bowling Green assisted the associate athletics director for internal affairs.
