COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Western Michigan hockey incoming freshman Michael McCarron has been named to the 23-player roster for the U.S. Men’s National Under-18 team that will compete at the 2013 International ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Under-18 Championship from April 18-28, in Sochi, Russia.

McCarron, who signed a National Letter of Intent with WMU in November, and Team USA are looking to capture the fifth consecutive gold medal. The Macomb, Mich., native is one of 13 forwards on the team that will play Russia on April 18 to open the tournament.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound winger has racked up 30 points in 51 total games with the USNDTP U-18 team this season. He was rated as a “B” skater by the NHL Central Scouting Service for the upcoming 2013 NHL Entry Draft. McCarron was also ranked as the seventh-best skater in the United States Hockey League and third-best forward.

Western Michigan already has a recent tie with the World U18 Championship. Forward Chase Balisy won a gold medal with Team USA in the 2010 in Belarus.

All U.S. games during the tournament will be streamed online live at USAHockey.FastHockey.com.
