FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- For the second straight week a Western Michigan Bronco hockey player has claimed the CCHA/Gladiator Defenseman of the Week as Dan DeKeyser received the honors on Monday afternoon for his play in WMU’s sweep of Canisius.

DeKeyser, who claims the award for the first time in his career, helped shut out the Golden Griffins in WMU’s 3-0 win on Friday. He also fired off five shots on goal on the night. On Saturday he netted the game’s opening goal to give WMU a 1-0 lead in the second period. He later helped set up Trevor Elias’s game-winning goal late in the third period to notch his first two-point game of the season. DeKeyser also fired off a season-high six shots on net in the win and finished plus-1.

Last week sophomore defenseman Garrett Haar was named Gladiator Defenseman of the Week after netting two goals against St. Lawrence. After two weeks and four games played both DeKeyser and Haar lead the Broncos in goals scored with two each.

No. 10 Western Michigan is off this week before heading to Notre Dame to open CCHA Play on Nov. 2 and 4.
