KALAMAZOO - The Western Michigan hockey team and head coach Andy Murray have announced the addition of goalie Lukas Hafner to the roster for the upcoming season.

Hafner, a freshman, spent three seasons in junior hockey in the NAHL, USHL and most recently CCHL before coming to the Broncos. Last season he appeared in 48 games with the Cornwall Colts, putting up a 34-9-4 record with a 2.11 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound netminder backstopped the Colts to the CCHL Championship, where they fell in a seven-game series.

Hafner joins WMU's stable of goalies in Nick Pisellini and CCHA Tournament MVP Frank Slubowski. The Toledo, Ohio native has an older brother, Rusty, who is a defenseman for CCHA rivals Bowling Green.

Western Michigan opens the 2012-13 season on Oct. 6 with an exhibition game against Western Ontario at 7 p.m.
