KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Former Western Michigan women's basketball player Maria Iaquaniello was one of 20 inducted into the Detroit Catholic League Hall of Fame, at a banquet held June 11 at the Fern Hill Country Club in Clinton Twp., Mich.

In its 36th year, the Catholic League Hall of Fame honors graduating college seniors with outstanding high school and college careers.

At the conclusion of her senior season in 2011-12, Iaquaniello was named Honorable Mention All-Mid-American Conference and was an Academic All-MAC selection. She started all 30 games for the Broncos and led WMU in scoring (13.0 ppg) and field-goal percentage (48.8%), while ranking second in rebounding (4.9 rpg) and steals (50).

Iaquaniello's senior year was her best, as she totaled 389 points after scoring just 249 in her first three seasons combined. While at WMU, Iaquaniello battled back from a knee injury which sidelined her prior to her junior year.

In high school, Iaquaniello attended Dearborn Divine Child, where she was a standout on the basketball and track teams. In 2006, she finished second in the state in the 800m run.

Iaquaniello graduated from Western Michigan with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, triple majoring in math, biology and chemistry this past April. She will work as an engineer at Denso Manufacturing in Battle Creek, Mich.
