Whittington Wins Third MAC West POW Award

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - It was announced today that Western Michigan men's basketball player Shayne Whittington was named the recipient of the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for Jan. 21.  It is the third time this season that Whittington has earned the weekly award.

Whittington averaged a double-double in two conference contests last week, helping the Broncos to a pair of victories and a tie for the lead in the MAC West division. Whittington posted his fifth double-double of the season against Toledo on Wednesday notching 12 points and 13 rebounds in the Broncos' 23-point victory. In addition, Whittington recorded five blocks and three steals against the Rockets, and also notched three assists.

Whittington continued his roll on Saturday, posting 10 rebounds and nine points in just 23 minutes in the Broncos' 37-point win over Northern Illinois. Whittington added three blocks, an assist, and a steal as well. Whittington is averaging 9.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in conference play, and is now tied for the overall scoring lead on the Broncos with 11.2 points per game.
