Oliver, Yancy Named Preseason All-MAC West
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its Preseason All-MAC volleyball team today, with Western Michigan's Lena Oliver and Stephenee Yancy each earning nods on the Preseason All-MAC West division squad. The teams were selected based on votes from the conference's 12 head coaches.
Oliver is the reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year and is coming off her second straight season as a First Team All-MAC selection. The senior libero averaged 5.00 digs per set in 2012, backstopping the Broncos to an average of 17.30 digs per set as a team. Oliver enters the season with the opportunity to break both the program and conference records for career digs, and should become just the second player in program history to break 2,000 career digs early in the season. In addition, earlier this week Oliver was named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, one of only two MAC volleyball players to make the list.
Yancy also earned some serious hardware in 2012, taking home the MAC Freshman of the Year award, and looks ready to take big steps forward this season. Yancy averaged 2.18 kills per set for the Broncos last season and hit .261, second-best on the team. She was also a stalwart defensively, averaging a team-best 0.74 blocks per set.
