KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The annual WMU alumni match did not disappoint fans itching for Bronco volleyball as the 2012 team took four sets from the alumni (25-10, 25-10, 25-18, 25-16).
The tune up for the upcoming season is a fan favorite but also gives head coach Colleen Munson and her staff a chance to see their team in game-like situations.
Ali Gossen seemed to be in mid-season form with 16 kills on 35 attacks, while Lena Oliver paced WMU with 35 digs. Jessica Brown, who only played two sets added three solo blocks on the night. She also had seven kills.
Freshman Ave Stout had five kills in her first action on the court at University Arena. Richelle Ranney added eight kills on 12 attempts for .500 hitting average in two games.
Terin Norris had nearly all of the Broncos' 57 set assists, registering 49 during the match.
The alumni team was comprised of many recent WMU players including Boo Sweeney, Sam Viox, Ashley Vogl and Jillian Mitchell among others. Katie Eberling was also in attendance despite not playing due to her Olympic training in bobsled.
WMU opens its 2012 officiallyat the Oklahoma Nike Invitational on Aug. 24. The Broncos will face the host Sooners after opening with Tulsa, and close with Missouri State.
