KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan volleyball team has officially announced its schedule for the upcoming 2012 season, with four tournaments to open the season and nine home matches total dotting the landscape as the Broncos attempt to repeat their NCAA Tournament run of 2011.

The Broncos will not play a home match until the second weekend of Mid-American Conference play, opting instead to open with four prestigious tournaments on the road. One week after their preseason Alumni Match (Aug. 18), the Broncos will go to Oklahoma for the Oklahoma Nike Invitational (Aug. 24-25) in Norman, facing Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Missouri State. The following week will see them participate in a tournament hosted by Milwaukee (Aug. 31 - Sept. 1), which will feature Southeast Missouri State, Bradley, and the hosting Panthers.

The Broncos' third tournament will feature a trio of talented opponents, as WMU will go to the Carolina Volleyball Classic (Sept. 7-8) where they will face Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, and LSU. They'll close their non-conference schedule at the Northwestern Wildcat Classic (Sept. 14-15) against St. Louis, Delaware, and Northwestern.

Conference play will begin on the road, as the Broncos will take on in-state rivals Eastern Michigan (Sept. 21) and Central Michigan (Sept. 22) to open the season. WMU will finally compete in the friendly confines of University Arena on Sept. 28, when they host MAC West foe Toledo; they will host Ball State (Sept. 29) later in the weekend. The Broncos will play home-and-home series with those four teams, as well as the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Broncos will host Akron, Buffalo, and Miami in MAC East crossover play this year, while they will travel to Bowling Green, Kent State, and Ohio.

There are two non-conference matches scheduled in the middle of conference play, with a trip to Marquette coming on Oct. 9 and a home match with the Dayton Flyers on Nov. 23, the regular season finale. The 2012 MAC Tournament, which will be played at the SPIRE Center in Geneva, Ohio, is scheduled for Nov. 16-18.
