Acree, Gossen Named to National A2 Team
Acree and Gossen will report to the 48-member team in June in Columbus, Ohio, and will go through preliminary training from June 26-30. The group will be divided into four separate teams, which will then compete at the Girls' Junior National Championships at the Columbus Convention Center from June 30 - July 4. All matches will be A2 competing against each other in a round-robin format followed by a semifinal and final round.
"We're very proud of the recognition for two of our student athletes," said Western Michigan head coach Colleen Munson. "We're looking forward to seeing how this opportunity helps their development and what it contributes to our program's continued success."
Acree and Gossen are the first Broncos to be named to the A2 roster since M'Myia McQuirter got the nod in 2001. Mandy Whitfield and Traci Morin were also named to the program in 1999 when the program was referred to as the Pan Am Games Training Team.
The 48 U.S. Women's National A2 Team Program players hail from 34 different collegiate programs. The A2 program includes eight liberos, 12 middle blockers, 14 outside hitters, six opposites and eight setters. Acree and Gossen are the only two active Mid-American Conference players to be part of the team.
