Getsy Photos

Luke Getsy was officially named the wide receivers coach at Western Michigan on Jan. 10, 2013. Getsy returns to the Mid-American Conference where, as a player, he led Akron to the 2005 MAC Championship.

Over the past two seasons, Getsy has served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During his first year at IUP the Crimson Hawks led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in passing efficiency (169.3) and red zone efficiency (87.5).

Getsy began his coaching career at his alma mater, working as a graduate assistant at Akron during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He moved onto West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2009 were he served as the offensive coordinator. Prior to joining IUP Getsy was an offensive graduate assistant at Pittsburgh in 2011.

As a player, Getsy (28/DOB: 2-16-1984) was named MVP of the 2005 MAC Championship Game and led the Zips to their first ever Division I FBS bowl game. He threw for a Motor City Bowl record 455 yards and led the MAC in passing with 3,500 yards and 23 TDs as a junior in 2005. Getsy set 24 individual records at Akron in only two seasons after transferring from Pitt. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2007.

Getsy and his wife Tina have a son John and are expecting their second child this winter.
