Transfers Learning the WMU Style in Day 4 of Camp
Rain or shine the Broncos are still out on the turf at Waldo Stadium preparing for a season filled with high expectations. Though the elements were not ideal, the mood around camp was no excuses, just get your job done and win.
Transferring players whether from junior college or another Division I FBS university may be depended on to play big roles for the Broncos this season. The transition from one football school to another is easier said than done, and especially when you have to learn WMU's high-octane, no-huddle offense.
"It's a difference from Michigan State, " said offensive lineman John Deyo, who transferred from the Spartans with one year of eligibility left. "It's a fast pace offense to learn."
That fast paced offense seemed to be dampened down in the early portions of practice as Mother Nature decided to dump the rain on the players. When the rain went away, the offense was right back to their fast-paced style.
While transitions can be complicated, the transition into the offensive line family for Deyo has went smoothly.
"I'm getting along with all the guys, seems like were getting closer as each day goes on," Deyo said.
The defense seemed to keep up their fast paced style of play in Thursday's practice, even with the elements against them. They forced the offense into many tough situations in team and 7-on-7 drills, even intercepting a few balls. Junior college transfer Terry Easmon will make big contributions to the WMU defense this year, which he received high praise for from head coach Bill Cubit.
"We knew Terry was going to be good," said Cubit. "He's a good physical player."
It seems like Easmon fits right in to the mindset of the team as his goals are similar to the one's of the team.
"I just want to help the team out, the best I can and get to the MAC Championship Game," Easmon said.
Mother Nature couldn't stop the intensity from flowing at Day 4 of Fall Camp. The intensity however will be brought to a whole new level on Friday, as it will be the first day in full pads.
"We get to see how far some of these kids can go," Cubit said.
So let the real football season begin.
