Western Michigan Director of Athletics Kathy Beauregard became the first woman to receive the Gerald R. Ford Award on Friday, an honor bestowed by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
The John Fetzer Center was full of Bronco Pride early Friday afternoon as Beauregard was honored by staff members, coaches, guests, alumni and former student-athletes during a ceremony hosted by the MSHOF and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Former Bronco QB Tim Hiller gave a heart-felt keynote speech telling a story publicly for the first time how Beauregard's knack for always "being there" has stayed with him into his professional and personal life.
Jim Stark, the MSHOF Executive Director, made a few comments regarding how deserving Kathy is for this award and congratulated the staff at WMU on, "setting the bar very high" for next year's event.
Beauregard shared the award with her staff, her family and all of those who have paved the way to this day. Her husband, Rick, son, Brad, mother, father and mother-in-law were also in attendance.
Kathy will be a guest atht MSHOF Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies to be held in Detroit on Feb. 13, 2013.
