KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team took an early advantage on their Mid-American Conference rival, but the Broncos fell just short in a 5-2 loss to Bowling Green.  With the loss, the Broncos fall to 11-13 on the season, and conclude MAC play with a 4-4 record.

The Broncos opened the match on a high note, sweeping their way through the doubles session to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.  The session opened when Jill Pastunink and Kelsey King took the No. 3 doubles match, picking up an early break to take the lead and never looking back.  King and Pastunink found another break along the way, defeating Mary Hill and Jade Johnson 8-5 to take the lead in the doubles session.

Another senior was key in helping the Broncos capture the doubles point, as Maggie Remynse teamed with Nini Sujashvili to beat Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles match.  The win improved the duo's record to 7-1 in conference play this season.  Even with the doubles point in their possession, the Broncos continued to tack on, as Caroline Aleck and Kathleen Hawkins cruised in a late tiebreaker to beat Emily Reuland and Nikki Chiricosta 8-7 (2).

The Falcons took a 2-1 lead in the match with wins in the Nos. 2 and 5 singles matches, but the Broncos tied the overall match at 2-2 when Hawkins earned her second win of the day.  Hawkins defeated Katie Brozovich 6-4 in the first set before falling behind 3-0 in the second set.  Hawkins won six straight games to close out the set, winning the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-3.  Hawkins wraps the conference season with a 6-2 record against MAC opponents in singles play, winning four in a row to wrap the conference season.

Bowling Green edged the Broncos in the final three matches on the court, though, with the Falcons clinching the victory with a win at No. 6 singles.  Jill Pastunink came back from a large deficit in the second set against Eccleston to force a second-set tiebreaker, but Eccleston survived the surge and took the win at No. 3 singles.
