PEORIA, Ill. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team salvaged a split on their weekend swing in the state of Illinois, defeating Bradley 6-1 on Saturday at Markin Tennis Courts in Peoria. With the win, the Broncos improve to 7-8 on the season, while the Braves fall to 2-12.
The Broncos opened the afternoon with a clean sweep of the doubles competition, taking all three matches fairly easily. The No. 1 doubles combination of Nini Sujashvili and Maria Nivia defeated Nicole Miller and Adele Henke 8-4, while the teams of Amanda Moccia / April Kerr and Jill Pastunink / Maggie Remynse dictated the tempo of play and won by scores of 8-1 and 8-0, respectively.
The Broncos added five wins in singles play to shore up the victory, highlighted by the 6-0, 6-4 victory of Sujashvili over Miller in the No. 1 match. Moccia posted a clean sweep 6-0, 6-0 win over Bradley's Ashley Roth, and Remynse, Pastunink, and Rachel Denny also registered victories.
