Women's Tennis Falls to Michigan State, 6-1
KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Michigan State was too much for Western Michigan Friday, defeating the Broncos, 6-1. Nini Sujashvili had the Broncos' lone individual victory at No. 4 singles. The Broncos lost three singles matches in three sets.
Michigan State took the doubles points, taking two of three and proceeded to win the first five singles matches before Sujashvilli salvaged at point for WMU. After dropping her first set, Sujashvilli came back to top MSU's Whitney Wilson, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Maggie Remynse and Jill Pastunink had the victory at No. 3 doubles, 9-8.
Remynse and Maria Nivia got off to good starts at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles with first set wins, but eventually succombed to their Spartan foes in three. After dropping her first set, Miloslava Shustova bounced back to win the second, but she too was edged in the final set.
Western Michigan heads to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a pair of matches Saturday, taking on Evansville at 2 p.m. and IPFW at 7 p.m. Evansville
is perfect on the season with a 3-0 record, while IPFW is 7-2. WMU (1-6) has
never lost to either opponent, holding a 1-0 record against Evansville
and a 3-0 mark against IPFW.
