Nivia Named MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference announced today that Western Michigan sophomore Maria Nivia is the MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. This is the first weekly award of Nivia's career.

Nivia led the Broncos by winning all four of her matches in the opening weekend of conference play. Nivia started the weekend by sweeping her matches against defending MAC champion Miami with an 8-7 (8) victory with Yumi Matsuto in doubles and a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles over Cara Wald. Nivia came back against the Cardinals and won 8-2 in doubles with April Kerr and moved up to No. 4 singles to defeat Kylee Johnson 6-2, 6-1. Nivia leads the Broncos with nine dual match singles wins and is 6-1 in dual doubles.

The Broncos (9-9, 1-1 MAC) head to Bowling Green to play the Falcons (11-4, 1-1 MAC) on Friday at 1 p.m.
