Remynse, Hawkins Advance at ITA Second Chance
Remynse and Hawkins each advanced to the finals of their respective singles draws, with Remynse moving up in the Alpha Flight and Hawkins moving ahead in the Bravo Flight. Remynse's win represented her third victory in her last four singles matches, as she held off Milwaukee's Kristin Kurer in a tiebreaker second set to win 7-6 (5), 6-3. Remynse will look to win her third straight match when she competes in the Alpha Flight finals on Sunday.
While Remynse was busy advancing in the Alpha Flight of singles, Hawkins was cruising to a win against a conference opponent in the Bravo Flight. Hawkins took on Stephanie McDonald of Northern Illinois, and the junior from Portage cruised to a two-set victory. Hawkins shut out McDonald in the first set and took a number of breaks on her in the second, defeating her 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles play, Hawkins and Caroline Aleck looked to win a doubles title for the second straight year at the ITA Second Chance, but the pair fell just short against a duo from Michigan State. Aleck and Hawkins battled Nicole Herzog and Michaela Silesova, but ultimately fell 8-3.
