Hawkins Named to MAC All-Tournament Team
Hawkins was essential in helping the Broncos to the semifinal round of the tournament, winning both of her matches against the Buffalo Bulls on Friday to advance the Broncos. Hawkins teamed with Maria Nivia in No. 2 doubles to defeat Tanvi Shah and Miranda Podlas 8-6, clinching the doubles victory for the Broncos and giving them what proved to be an essential point.
Later that afternoon, Hawkins scored another decisive victory, cruising past Podlas in the No. 4 singles match by a 6-1, 6-0 score. The win gave Hawkins her 20th singles victory of the year, which led the Broncos in 2011-12. Hawkins was far and away the overall wins leader for the Broncos, also contributing a team-best 27-12 record in doubles play for 47 total wins on the year.
In addition to Hawkins' honor, the Broncos will announce the Amy Yeast Most Valuable Player Award on Monday, April 30. The award is voted on by the members of the team, and is given to the player judged to be most valuable to the team's success.
