Doubles Successful on First Day of Purdue Invite
The Broncos had three players advance to the second round of their respective draws, including Ross VanderPloeg, who advanced to the second round of the Flight A Singles draw with a 6-3, 6-1 win over UW-Green Bay's Erik Finkenbrink.
Also reaching the second rounds of their respective draws were Aaron Wong and Marc Shideler. Wong made his 2012-13 debut in the Flight C Singles draw, defeating valparaiso's Egan Hart 6-3, 6-2. Shideler picked up an impressive singles victory against the Crusaders' Brian Hickey, coming back from a first set loss to win the match 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Shideler was also successful in doubles play on Friday, teaming with Jimmy Beckwith in the Flight B Doubles draw to defeat Xavier's duo of Abunku and Mueck 8-4. Wong had a solid day as part of a mixed doubles pair with Butler's Ruben Geeraert, beating DePaul's duo of Reinhart and Johnson 8-4 and Valparaiso's Waak and Hart 8-5.
VanderPloeg would team with Michael Treis to pick up the final win of the day for the Broncos, defeating Matt Ford and Nolan Marks of Cleveland State 8-1 in the Flight A Doubles Back Draw.
