WMU Golf Ties for Ninth at Weather Shortened IU Invitational
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Originally scheduled as a 54-hole event, WMU completed its lone 18 holes at the IU Invitational finishing in a tie for ninth with UMKC and Missouri State.
Western Michigan was three strokes out of the lead with 4-5 holes to go in the round on Sunday but three of five Broncos finished three to four over par on their final five holes, causing WMU to drop to ninth in the standings.
Kaylee Imel was the low finisher for WMU, carding a 4-over par 76 and tying for 11th. Imel birdied two of her last six holes after opening her round double bogey, bogey, bogey.
Laura Moutrey tied for 28th after carding a 6-over par 78. The freshman was consistent throughout the round, carding identical 3-over par 39's on the front and back nines.
Indiana captured the team title with a total score of 298 (+10). The Hoosiers' Kristtini Cain outlasted teammate Kate Coons and Ball State's Jenna Hague in a three hole playoff for medalist after the trio tied at 1-over par 73. Hague finished runner up. Ball State finished runner up in the team standings followed by Eastern Michigan, Kansas State and IUPUI, rounding out the top five.
Western Michigan closes its season at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships at the Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers, Ind., an event the Broncos will host.
