Broncos Head to Costal Carolina Soccer Classic
KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team heads to Conway, S.C. for the Coastal Carolina Soccer Classic in search of their first win of the season.
The Broncos play College of Charleston on Friday at 5 p.m. and then battle hosts Coastal Carolina on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. WMU is coming off a hard-fought, 1-0, loss to No. 19 Illinois. The Brown & Gold outshot the Fighting Illini 20-8 but were unable to find the back of the net. The lone goal surrendered was on a penalty kick in the second half.
College of Charleston (0-1-0) is also seeking their first win of the season. The Cougars dropped their season opener at home, 2-1, to UNC Charlotte. Senior midfielder Sarah Schaidle is the top returning scorer for Charleston, scoring seven goals in each of the last two seasons.
Coastal Carolina (1-1-0) opened the season with a 2-0 loss to Kentucky before beating Francis Marion 3-0.
WMU hosts Murray State on Friday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. for their home opener.
