KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team fell to IPFW, 2-0, in an exhibition match on a rainy Friday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

The Broncos outshot the Mastodons 8-6 and landed five of them on goal but were unable to get one past IPFW's Sam Pavlika.

The game-winner came in the 28th minute when a ball was played down the right side of the field. WMU goalkeeper Michelle Watson came out of position to play it but IPFW's Sydney Hoareau beat her to the ball and curled it around her to give the Mastadons a 1-0 lead.

IPFW pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute on a corner kick. The Broncos tried to clear out the ball from the box but it went straight to Tessa Edwards and she slotted the ball into the lower right-hand side of the net.

The Broncos open the 2012 regular season on the road at No. 19 Illinois next Friday at 8 p.m.
