Women's Tennis Picked Third in MAC Preseason Poll
The Broncos return most of their line-up from last season, including 2013 Second Team All-MAC selection Nini Sujashvili, who played in the No. 1 singles spot for the Broncos last season and has started that way as well. The Broncos' senior captain, Sujashvili has a 26-26 record in No. 1 singles since the start of the 2012 season, including a 1-1 mark to start the 2014 dual match campaign. Sujashvili also boasted a 16-9 record in dual match doubles last season, including a 7-1 record against MAC opposition in the regular season that was best on the team.
Also in her senior season is Kathleen Hawkins, who entered the spring dual match season with a #55 national ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Hawkins' ranking is the highest ever singles ranking for a Bronco; the previous best was Frederika Girsang, who was ranked #62 nationally in the season-opening ITA poll in 2003.
WMU is 1-1 to open the 2014 dual match season, having fallen at #21 Notre Dame in their first match of the year before defeating Valparaiso on the same day to even their record. The Broncos will return home for a doubleheader on Saturday, when they face Butler and Chicago State in Kalamazoo.
