Singles Dominant on Final Day at Super Challenge
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season with a near-perfect day on the courts on Sunday, winning five of its six singles matches on the final day of the WMU Super Challenge. The day caps a successful weekend for the Broncos, who saw one player go undefeated in singles competition over the weekend and others post 2-1 marks.
Senior Nini Sujashvili capped a perfect singles weekend at the Super Challenge with a win against Indiana's Carolyn Chupa, cruising past Chupa in straight sets for the win. Sujashvili downed the Hoosier 6-2, 6-1 to wrap a 3-0 weekend in singles play, putting her in elite company in the tournament as one of only five players to not lose a singles match.
Success abounded throughout the rest of the Bronco line-up, as four other players picked up wins on the final day of the tournament. Kelsey King improved to 2-1 on the weekend with a win over Marquette's Rocio Diaz, shutting her out in the first set and winning the tiebreaker to take a 6-0, 6-5 (5) decision. Yuriko Ono also improved to 2-1 on the weekend, taking a tight set with Bowling Green's Drew Fillis to win 6-5 (4), 6-4.
Meika Ashby and Tracy Kuhle each snapped two-match skids on Sunday, with both defeating opponents from Bowling Green to do so. Ashby posted a convincing win over the Falcons' Katie Brozovich, breezing through the first set before taking a tighter second to win 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, Kuhle was similarly successful against Brittany Plaszewski, winning 6-3, 6-3 to wrap the fall tournament season.
