SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team completed action at the first annual Bobby Bayliss Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Sunday, with sophomore Michael Treis earning All-Tournament honors by completing a 4-0 weekend in singles in South Bend.

Using a points system based on wins and with more weight lent to beating tougher competition, Treis was named to the All-Tournament team by concluding his weekend with his fourth singles win. Facing off against Notre Dame's Michael Fredericka, Treis survived two close shaves en route to a 6-5, 6-5 victory over the homestanding Notre Dame player.

The Broncos went 4-3 overall in singles on Sunday, but Treis's victory was not the only close win of the day. Ruben Greiner took a three-setter from Louisville's Eric Bonfre, coming back from a second set loss to win in a third set super-tiebreaker by the score of 6-2, 5-6, 1-0 (4). Greiner also picked up a doubles win on Sunday, teaming with junior Marc Shideler to beat the Fighting Irish's Fredericka and Montoya 8-4. Jimmy Beckwith also survived a three-setter on Sunday, beating the Cardinals' Amaury Derognat; however, Beckwith came back from a first set loss to win the second set 6-4, and overcame his opponent 1-0 (6) in the super-tiebreaker to win in three.

Comparatively speaking, that meant Zach Phillips' match against Michigan State's Paul Heeder was the easy one of the bunch. Phillips faced no such three-set drama, instead working methodically and defeating Heeder 6-1, 6-1 to wrap up the singles success for the Broncos on the weekend.

The other doubles pairing to pick up a win for the Broncos on Sunday was Nadin Indre and Andrew Cahn, who also defeated a pair from Notre Dame for the victory. The duo picked up several breaks on the pairing of Eddy Covalschi and Alex Lawson, downing them 8-5 on their home court in the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
