KALAMAZOO, Mich. - One day after graduated senior Brandon Pokley was honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on their 2012-13 honors court, the Western Michigan men's basketball team garnered another accolade when it received a 2012-13 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.  This is the first year the NABC has given out the award.

In order to earn an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must count the grade point averages of all men's basketball student-athletes competing during the 2012-13 season in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II.  The award recognizes any team that maintains a team grade point average of 3.0 or better over the course of the season.  The Broncos are the only school in the Mid-American Conference represented on the list, and one of only 18 NCAA Division I schools to be named to the list.

Nine members of the team during the 2012-13 season maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better over the course of their academic careers, while eight posted a GPA better than 3.0 during the Spring semester.  There was a total of 12 Broncos that boasted a GPA better than 3.0 during the Fall semester.
