The award is a part of a larger group of awards, called the 'Switzies' named after former national champion and Super Bowl champion coacch Barry Switzer.
The award to Coach Fleck is unveiled four selections down, three after the "Best Off-Season SI Cover" and just before "Best Off-Season Recruiting Development."
In her words:
Best new hire. Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck, who painted up his chest for an icy pond jump, and who brought along his wife, Tracie, for the festivities. Tracie, a new mother, jumped into a frozen body of water in a bathing suit, in February, in Michigan.
She has written two stories about Coach Fleck with the first highlighting the polar plunge Coach Fleck and his wife did for charity and the second asking fans that if they don't have a favorite MAC team, WMU should be it because of P.J. Fleck:
