Sujashvili Earns Second MAC POW Award of Season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - It was announced this afternoon that Nini Sujashvili of the Western Michigan women's tennis team was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for March 27, marking the second time this season Sujashvili she has taken home the Player of the Week award. It is the third time this season Sujashvili has taken home a weekly award; she was named the MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week earlier this season as well.

Sujashvili went 4-0 for the Broncos last weekend, helping them to a perfect 2-0 start in conference play with victories over Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Sujashvili started the weekend with a 2-0 performance over the Eagles, clinching the important doubles point for the Broncos and earning a win at No. 1 singles. Sujashvili teamed with Maggie Remynse to beat Daphne Friedrichs and Mariya Toncheva 8-4 in No. 2 doubles, clinching the session for the Broncos. She then went on to give the Broncos a 2-1 advantage in the overall match, downing Nino Mebuke 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match. Western Michigan went on to win the match with the Eagles 4-3.

Against the Rockets on Saturday, Sujashvili was similarly successful. She again clinched the doubles point for the Broncos, teaming with Remynse to come back from an early deficit to beat Pia Rygh and Katelyn Nguyen 9-7 in No. 2 doubles. Sujashvili clinched the overall match victory for the Broncos as well, winning a three-set nailbiter with Katelyn Nguyen 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 to ensure a Broncos victory.
