KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team returned to action after a two-week layoff with a pair of dominant victories, defeating the Kalamazoo College Hornets and the Ferris State Bulldogs each by 7-0 scores.  With the wins, the Broncos improve to 12-7 on the season.

The Broncos' day began with the defeat of the Hornets, as WMU made quick work of their cross-town rivals with a sterling performance.  The doubles pairing of Ruben Greiner and Nadin Indre earned the first win of the day for WMU, downing Steve Hanselman and and Peter Rothstein 8-3.  Stephen Payne and Ross VanderPloeg clinched the doubles point with a win in No. 2 doubles, beating Max Manley and Robert Hudson 8-3, and Jim Beckwith and Aaron Wong wrapped the doubles session with an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles over Alan Faber and Mike Korn.

Wong provided the first singles win of the day, beating Korn 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match, and VanderPloeg made it a 3-0 affair with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles match over Rothstein.  The match victory was clinched literally seconds later, when Indre completed a dominant second set over Hanselman in claiming a 7-5, 6-2 win over Hanselman at No. 2 singles.

Pablo Mora outlasted Robert Hudson in a close first set to win 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, Greiner defeated David DeSimone at No. 3 singles, and Cahn wrapped the match with a win at No. 6 singles, cruising past Faber to the tune of a 6-2, 6-1 score.

The match against the Bulldogs started in similar fashion, as Western Michigan swept through the doubles session to again take the early point; however, the Bulldogs put up a fight, nearly taking the No. 1 doubles match and challenging in another.  Wong and Beckwith fought off a worthy challenge from Otto Keresztes and Aaron Dial, winning 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles, and Payne and VanderPloeg clinched the point for the Broncos with an 8-2 win over Sergiu Laza and Tyler Marengo at No. 2.  Indre and Greiner completed the session with a comeback win, downing Laurent Galarneau and Razvan Mag 9-7 in the No. 1 match.

Greiner would be the first to strike in singles play, cruising past Merengo 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead.  Mora was next, defeating Mag 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles match to put the Broncos in position to clinch the victory.  VanderPloeg did just that, pulling away from Galarneau in a tight match to win 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.  Cahn picked up his second singles win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Andrew Dial at No. 6 singles, Wong came back from a set down to win a super tiebreaker against Keresztes, and Indre wrapped the scoring with a full three-set victory over Laza at No. 2 singles.
