WMU NEWS & NOTES

THE SERIES
This will be the 86th meeting between the two teams, with the Spartans holding a 58-27 advantage in the all-time series against the Broncos. The last time the teams met was last season, when Michigan State defeated the Broncos 6-1 in East Lansing. Aaron Wong earned the sole win for the Broncos in singles play, defeating Harry Jadun in the No. 6 match.

WHAT THEY DID IN THE FALL
There were only two instances of members of the Broncos facing off against members of the Spartans; coincidentally enough, both matches occurred at the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Michigan State. The teams split the singles matches 1-1, with Christian Roehmer defeating Michael Treis 7-5, 6-1, and Stephen Payne downing Harry Jadun 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7).

THE HARDWARE KEEPS ON COMING
The Mid-American Conference announced today that Ross VanderPloeg of the Western Michigan men's tennis team was named the MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 6. It is the second time VanderPloeg has won the award this season; he previously was named Player of the Week for Feb. 20.

VanderPloeg had a standout weekend for the Broncos at the H.E.B. Tournament of Champions, hosted by Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, finishing 5-1 overall on the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play.
