KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Mid-American Conference announced today that Ross VanderPloeg of the Western Michigan men's tennis team was named the MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 20. VanderPloeg is the second Bronco to win the award this year, joining junior Nadin Indre, and it is the second weekly award VanderPloeg has taken home during the 2013 dual match season; he was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week earlier in the season.

VanderPloeg recorded a 3-1 record over the weekend, helping the Broncos to victories over Valparaiso and Youngstown State in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. He opened the day with a pair of wins against the Crusaders, teaming with Jim Beckwith to beat Michael Savaglio and Michael Baiocchi in the No. 3 doubles match. He followed with a dominant win in the No. 2 singles match, downing Chris Baum 6-1, 6-1 and helping the Broncos to a 7-0 win.

VanderPloeg was similarly dominant in his second singles match of the day, helping the Broncos to a 5-2 win over Youngstown State with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sebastian Hagn in the No. 2 singles.
