P.J. Fleck Takes the Polar Plunge
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - It seems as if no challenge is big enough for WMU football head coach P.J. Fleck. Fleck's passionate personality and his life message of "Row the Boat" were on display Saturday when he plunged into the ice cold waters of Goldsworth Valley Pond.
Fleck along with his wife Tracie both took the Polar plunge, jumping into the freezing waters outside of the valleys on the campus of WMU. With the wind blowing snow all around and the temperature seemingly dropping every second, Fleck was still one of the first in line to jump in.
Coach Fleck did a full-out body sprawl into the cold waters and popped right back up, only to being running out of the water faster than his football players do on Saturday's. Fleck's wife Tracy, who is just two months removed from bringing in the newest baby bronco into the Fleck family gracefully jumped in as well. Tracy however was not as enthusiastic as her husband was jumping into the water.
Lastly, it wouldn't be a Coach Fleck sighting without his famous life message of "Row the Boat." That's why coach Fleck had those famous words he preaches every day to his players painted onto his bare chest before jumping in.
The Fleck's, along with many others participated in the 2013 Kalamazoo Winter Plunge. The event gives donations to the Special Olympics Michigan and every participant in the plunge donated at least $75 to the Special Olympics.
Also joining in the fun was former WMU football All-American and first round NFL draft choice Jason Babin, in town this weekend for his induction into the Paw Paw High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Babin, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, is a current member of the Jacksonville Jaguars along with 2011 Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year Drew Nowak.
