KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to force a winner-take-all third set, but the Broncos' fell just short in losing 4-3 to the Youngstown State Penguins at West Hills Athletic Club on Friday.  With the loss, the Broncos fall to 4-3 on the season.

The Broncos trailed the Penguins 3-0 after the first two matches of singles play concluded, but the Broncos ripped off three straight singles victories to tie the overall match at 3-3.  Kathleen Hawkins continued her strong play of late, winning her third straight singles match, and Hawkins and Caroline Aleck each went 2-0 overall against the Penguins.

With her team trailing 3-0, Maggie Remynse got the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lauren Hankle in the No. 4 singles match, putting her team on the board for the first time.  She was followed by Hawkins, who prevailed in a tightly-contested match to beat Margarita Sadovnikova 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the No. 2 singles match.  The win was the third in a row for Hawkins, who improves to 4-2 in dual matches this season.  Aleck tied the match with an exciting victory in the No. 5 singles match, defeating Carolyn Jesko 7-5, 6-3 for her team-leading 11th singles victory of the season.

Moments after Aleck tied the overall match at 3-3, Kelsey King and Annina Brendel went to a full third set to decide the match.  The two players traded volleys back and forth, with King taking a 2-1 lead with a break.  King and Brendel traded breaks until Brendel tied the match at 4-4.  Brendel held serve to make the set 5-4, and was able to break King to win both her individual and the team match.

The match began with an exciting doubles session, with Hawkins and Aleck combining for a win in the No. 2 doubles to open.  The duo quickly jumped on Brendel and Jesko, downing them 8-2 to take the match.  However, the Penguins came back in the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches to take the doubles point.
