Western Michigan is coming off back-to-back losses to Buffalo (63-44) and Ball State (73-50) ... the Broncos have just two road wins on the season ... WMU's two conference wins were over Akron (84-77) and Northern Illinois (54-41) ... Toledo leads the MAC in overall wins with an 18-2 record and is second in the West with a 6-1 conference record, the Rockets' lone MAC loss was to Central Michigan (73-66), the other loss this season came to mid-major power Dayton in the second game of the season (79-76) ... the Rockets are on a six-game winning streak.
This will be the 67th meeting between Western Michigan and Toledo, with the Rockets controlling the series, 46-19, including a 25-7 mark when in Toledo ... WMU and UT split last year's meetings ... the Broncos stunned then-defending WNIT champion Toledo in Kalamazoo on Jan.5, 70-67 ... UT responded with a 76-50 victory in Toledo on Feb. 22 ... WMU's last win in the Glass City was Jan. 15, 2008, 70-57.
SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN
In conference play, WMU ranks eighth in the MAC in scoring offense, averaging 59.5 ppg and 10th in defense, allowing 67.7 ppg ... the Broncos are shooting 37.0 percent from the floor in league play ... sophomore forward Marquisha Harris is averaging 11.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg and has two double-doubles in MAC games ... junior guard Corie Buchanan is WMU's overall scoring leader, averaging 8.3 ppg, while Harris is scoring 7.8 ppg in all games combined.
In conference play, Toledo ranks third in scoring offense, averaging 64.8 ppg and leads the league in defense, allowing just 52.3 ppg ... the team is shooting 39.0 percent from the floor ... back for a redshirt senior season is point guard Naama Shafir (11.9 ppg, 98 assists) ... Shafir led UT to the WNIT crown (Tournament MVP) and was a First Team All-MAC selection in 2010-11 ... she tore right ACL four games into last season ... other big contributors are 5-7 senior guard Andola Dortch (11.3 ppg) and 6-2 senior center Yolanda Richardson (9.7 ppg) ... Dortch was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year last season and Richardson is the school's all-time shot blocker.
THE HEAD COACHES
Western Michigan is under the direction of first-year head coach Shane Clipfell ... Clipfell was previously an assistant coach at Michigan State (2008-12) and Eastern Michigan (1999-2007) under Suzy Merchant ... the Rockets are led by Tricia Cullop, in her fifth season at UT ... Cullop has a 96-40, 50-14 MAC record at UT and has led the Rockets to a WNIT championship, three MAC West titles and one MAC regular-season title.
MORTON'S MINUTES GOING UP
Freshman Alex Morton has since an increase in playing time from non-conference play to MAC games ... she was averaging just 13.3 minutes in non-conference action is has seen 25.2 mpg in MAC games ... her point production have also gone up from 2.2 ppg to 5.0 ... she has started 4 of 6 MAC contests.
OB PICKING WMU UP OFF THE BENCH
Sophomore forward Michelle O'Brien has played well over the last two games, averaging 10.5 ppg and 4.0 rpg off the bench ... at Buffalo, she had nine points and five rebounds in 14 minutes, and against Ball State, she had a team-best 12 points, as well as four rebounds in 22 minutes.
MARQUISHA LEAVING HER MARK IN MAC PLAY
Sophomore Marquisha Harris is averaging 11.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg during MAC play - both of which are team highs ... her point production ranks 15th in the league and her rebounding ranks 12th, she is also ranks 10th in field-goal percentage (49.3%) and sixth in blocked shots (7) ... she has two double-doubles in the last three games (vs. Akron & Buffalo).
OHIO GAME TIME MOVED TO 4 P.M.
The start time for the game at Ohio on Feb. 16 has been moved from noon to a 4 p.m. tip-off ... the game will still be televised on SportsTime Ohio ... the change was made after the Mid-American Conference announced that ESPNU had picked up the broadcast of the Ohio-Kent State men's basketball game that same day, which is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
