VanderPloeg Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week
CLEVELAND, Ohio - It was announced today that Ross VanderPloeg of the Western Michigan men's tennis team has been named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week for Jan. 28, marking the second straight week that a Bronco men's tennis player has won the award. Junior Nadin Indre was the recipient last week.
VanderPloeg, who maintains a 3.77 GPA in Interdisciplinary Health Services, clinched Broncos' 6-1 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Jan. 18, winning both his singles and doubles matches. He teamed with Marc Shideler in defeating UIC's team of Alan Reifer and Isaac Lloveras 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles match to start the evening, and went on to defeat Reifer in the No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-2, halting any chance of a comeback for UIC.
