CLEVELAND, Ohio - It was announced today that Western Michigan women's tennis player Nini Sujashvili was named the MAC Player of the Week for Jan. 23, after leading the Broncos to a pair of season-opening victories with a perfect 4-0 start to the season.

Sujashvili was part of a season-opening doubleheader sweep for the Broncos, helping them to 7-0 victories over Dayton and Valparaiso on Jan. 21.  She picked up four overall wins on Monday, including a pair of No. 1 singles wins and two No. 1 doubles wins.  Sujashvili opened the day with a No. 1 doubles win over Dayton's Carly Peck and Maureen Stevens, teaming with Jill Pastunink to clinch the doubles point with an 8-2 win.  Sujashvili continued the team's dominance in the opening match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over the Flyers' Sammi Hornbarger in the No. 1 singles match.

Sujashvili was similarly dominant in the nightcap against Valparaiso; she again teamed with Pastunink to clinch the doubles point, shutting out the Crusaders' Kristin Zakiewicz and Michele Fredlake 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles match.  Sujashvili clinched the overall team match as well, drubbing Zakiewicz 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match to assure the Broncos' victory.
