THE SERIES
The morning match between the Broncos and the Flyers will
be the first time the two teams have ever met, though the Broncos are
not unfamiliar with the Atlantic 10 conference. The Broncos are 5-1
against current members of the conference.
This will be the sixth
meeting between the Broncos and the Crusaders, with Western Michigan
holding a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the
teams met was in 2012, when the Broncos swept the Crusaders 7-0 at West
Hills.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FALL
Two members of the Broncos
squared off against Crusaders in the fall tournament season, with the
doubles pairing of Nini Sujashvili and Maggie Remynse defeating
Valparaiso’s Megan Barthels and Kaitlyn Hamel 8-3 at the DePaul
Invitational. Sujashvili also notched a singles victory against one of
the Crusaders at the tournament, defeating Kristin Zakiewicz 6-0, 6-1.
BRONCOS SHINE IN THE CLASSROOM
The
Western Michigan women’s tennis team continued an unprecedented run of
academic tradition last season, as the team earned Intercollegiate
Tennis Association All-Academic Team honors for the 17th consecutive
year. In addition, five individuals earned ITA All-Academic honors, more
than any other Mid-American Conference program. In addition, the
program ranked among the top 10 percent in all of NCAA Division I in
Academic Progress Rate, the second time in three years Women’s Tennis
has ranked so highly in APR.
