Broncos Conclude Weekend at Wildcat Invite
Ross VanderPloeg and Stephen Payne each picked up a victory on Sunday, concluding their fall seasons on a high note; coincidentally, each win came against a member of Mid-American Conference rival Toledo. VanderPloeg scored a comparatively easy victory in his match against Terence Weigand, earning a 6-3, 6-2 singles win.
Payne, meanwhile, found himself in a battle with the Rockets' Ryan Jorgensen. After a tight 7-5 first set, Payne completed the hard-fought victory with a 6-4 second set win.
Freshman Andrew Cahn competed in the finals of the Flight B Singles draw, hanging tough agianst Northwestern's Alberto Zanotti before falling in a tight third set. Cahn defeated Zanotti 7-6 in a first set tiebreaker, but Zanotti came back to tie the overall match with a second set win. The two players then produced a tight third set, with Zanotti just barely ekeing out the 1-0 (8) win.
