Broncos Fall at Buffalo, 1-0
BUFFALO -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team fell at Buffalo, 1-0, at UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
A goal off a free kick by Buffalo's Stephanie Velez in the 86th minute was the lone goal of the game. After a Bronco foul she stepped up from 18 yards out and fired it into the low-left corner of the net.
Western Michigan (5-8-4, 1-4-4 MAC) was outshot 16-12 on the day but the shots on goal were at an even seven-all. The Broncos fired off a majority of their shots in the second period, landing two of their seven on net. Dianna Dedvukaj fired off three shots on the day, while Aubrey Sudomier and Anina Cicerone each got off two.
The Broncos now face an uphill battle to get into the Mid-American Conference Tournament as they remain in 10th place. WMU will need Akron to beat Buffalo on Thursday, Ohio lose to Kent State and the Brown & Gold will have to beat Eastern Michigan as well to force tie-breakers into consideration.
WMU heads to Ypsilanti for their final regular season game on Thursday at 3 p.m.
