ATHENS, Ohio - Jessica Brown recorded 10 kills and the Western Michigan volleyball team held tight in the final two sets, but the Broncos could not pass the Ohio Bobcats in falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23) on Saturday.  With the loss, the Broncos fall to 14-9 overall, 7-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

Brown notched 10 kills and hit .348, and Terin Norris recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs, but the Broncos were unable to keep up with the Bobcats in the loss.  The Broncos tied the Bobcats with 5.0 total blocks.

The Broncos fell behind early in the first set, but pulled close when Richelle Ranney recorded a kill to make the score 10-9.  Jessica Brown notched a kill of her own to pull the score within 11-10, and the Broncos would keep things tied as late as 14-14 when Norris notched a kill.  However, Ohio went on a 5-1 run, and though the Broncos would pull to within 22-19 on an Ohio attack error, the Bobcats would seal the set when Kelly Lamberti recorded a kill to make it 25-19.

The Bobcats would lead the second set coast-to-coast, taking the lead on the first point and holding on for the victory.  The Broncos, though, would not go easily in the third set.  Ohio took a 9-4 lead early in the third set, but the Broncos battled back and tied the set midway through.  Brown notched a kill to pull within 9-5, and the lead was cut to just one point when Carlee Berland and Stephenee Yancy notched a block to make the score 11-10.

Gillian Asque tied the score with a kill to make it 12-12, and Yancy gave the Broncos the lead with a kill of her own one point later.  Norris recorded a service ace to take a 19-17 lead and force an Ohio timeout, but the teams traded points and the Bobcats eventually pulled even at 21-21.  The set was tied at 23-23, but a pair of attack errors from the Broncos gave the Bobcats the set win and the overall match victory.

The Broncos will be back in action next weekend when they face the Central Michigan Chippewas and Eastern Michigan Eagles in University Arena.
