Broncos Perfect On First Day at ITA Second Chance
Indeed, all three members of the Broncos in attendance earned wins on the first day of the tournament, with Kathleen Hawkins and Caroline Aleck each going 3-0 on the day with a singles win and two doubles wins. Maggie Remynse recorded a singles win, and all three players moved into the semifinals of their respective singles draws.
The pairing of Aleck and Hawkins won their doubles draw at last year's ITA Second Chance, and the duo showed the same magic again, winning a pair of matches to advance to the finals of the Alpha Flight. Aleck and Hawkins defeated Detroit's Raini Halabi and Chloe Karoub in their first round match, downing the pair 8-2 to move to the semifinals. From there, the pairing had a sterling second match, defeating Wisconsin's Helen Rabot and Pernilla Wohlstrom in an 8-0 shutout. The win propelled Aleck and Hawkins into the finals of the Alpha Flight doubles, where they will face Michigan State's Silesova and Herzog.
The pair was equally strong on their own, as well, with each picking up a singles win. Hawkins earned a singles win against Halabi, wrapping up a perfect first set before defeating Halabi 6-0, 6-2 in the Bravo Flight singles. Meanwhile, Aleck defeated Chicago State's Ruta Grinvalde, downing her 6-2, 6-1 in a quick affair.
Remynse recorded an impressive win for the Broncos as well, taking on Rabot and treating her to a fate similar to the one she encountered in doubles paly. Remynse held Rabot in check for the entire match, defeating her 6-1, 6-2.
